Solve Internet problems with CyberLibrary

Do you have any of these problems with your Internet access?
Limited Funds |
The requirement for network bandwidth seems to have no end. If left unchecked, the appetite for bandwidth would grow to consume all of the money allotted to it. Technology funds are precious and must be spent effectively. Satellite access can cost effectively address most school's bandwidth needs. |
Lack of Network Speed |
Neither teachers nor students will tolerate slow access. There isn't enough time to cover the curriculum now. Having to wait for resources to come down from the Internet is just not going to work. By combining broadband satellite downloads with local caching, "instantaneous" access to Web content can be provided -- greatly accelerating the learning opportunities. |
Potentially Harmful Content |
Some content may be harmful to teachers and students. Each community should be able to decide for itself whether to avoid certain types of harmful content. Further, what is appropriate for one age group may not be appropriate for another. Some way to customize access should be made available at the local level. Our Guardrails integrated product provides this functionality. |
Unequal Access |
When bandwidth is limited, students who can afford access at home have an unequal advantage. Having sufficient bandwidth at school helps equalize the educational opportunity required by our laws. Our distributed regulating software provides equal high-speed access for every student in the school. |
Network Harm |
In any school environment there will be always be those who accidentally, mischievously, or intentionally harm the network. The Proxy server contains the ability to log Internet access activity for users inside the school's network. This makes it possible to find any person who attempted harm to the network. It won't prevent such harm from happening but will provide information on who may have done it so follow-up action can take place. |
Needless Distractions |
Contact with content that does not focus on the curriculum is a needless distraction. Successful teaching and learning depends on our ability to focus on the curriculum and avoid distractions. Our Proxy Robot allows teachers to "load up" the caching server with proper Internet content -- this can effectively drive student learning -- those who stray may not be able to complete their classroom assignments on time. |
Lack of Flexibility |
One size does not fit all when it comes to Internet access. Educators need tools that permit them to have complete flexibility for their access to the Internet. Local administrators and teachers should have control over their own access so they can set the rules and enforce them. Our products provide complete local autonomy. The more engaged the local teachers are in the functionality of the system, the more useful it will become. |
JDLs K-12WORLD CyberLibrary provides schools with these benefits:
- Track internal users to prevent malicious damage from inside the network.
- Provide proxy server protection from outside intrusion
- Cache high traffic sites so they can be served from the server in your LAN instead of called up from the Internet every time they are requested. (40-60% of sites in schools are repeat requests so up to half of your bandwidth may be saved with caching.)
- Plan for Web site use in units and lessons and have the proxy server download those sites at night when the bandwidth is not heavily used.
- At the school's options, filter sites not permitted in your acceptable use policy including games and others sites that take students away from a focus on the curriculum.
